TIPS
FOR SELLING A CAR
It is sometimes in the seller's interest to trade in a "bomb"
through a dealer rather than sell it privately.
Used car values have dropped generally over the past couple
of years and in many cases, the cost of making a good, older car roadworthy,
may be as much as you can get from selling it privately. In this case, it
may be better to simply get the car off your hands through the dealer rather
than try to sell it yourself. On the other hand, if you have a really good,
well-maintained older car which could command a premium price, you will
probably fare better by having it detailed and getting a roadworthy or current
MOT certificate and then placing an advertisement in the paper or online.
Do your homework first by looking up representative prices
of similar models advertised on this site or by purchasing a copy of your
local Trading Post publication, then see how much different dealers offer
you before making the decision.
If the dealer is smart, they will get you
to drive the new vehicle first,
before giving you a price on your old car.
They know that after you have driven the later model, your own
(often inflated) value of the vehicle that was once your pride and
joy, will plummet ! |
