| Whether
you sell, give-away or even take a registered vehicle
to the tip, you must transfer or cancel the registration
within a prescribed period with your local motor
registration authority.
Statutory requirements applying
to both the disposer (the current owner) and the
acquirer (the buyer), vary around Australia. Specific
information can be found on the websites of the
various State licensing bodies. See "Selling
Privately" for more info.

Selling
to a Dealer & Trading In
This is probably the easiest way of disposing of
a used car as the dealer does most of the work in
arranging transfers, paying the relevant fees, and
arranging for roadworthiness or safety inspections. |
Selling
at Auction
The charges for selling your vehicle vary from company
to company and from State to State. Shop around
is the best advice. |
Selling
Privately
You will usually get more for your vehicle by selling
it privately, but you will also have to do a lot
more work for your money.

Preparing
Your Vehicle for Sale
Do your homework first by looking up representative
prices of similar models advertised on this site
or by purchasing a copy of your local Trading Post
publication.
